December 21, 2009
Zumbatomic® is a dance-fitness program designed exclusively for kids. The program is designed for kids and pre-teens ages 4-12. The groups are Zumbatomic® Lil Starz (ages 4-7) and Zumbatomic® Big Starz (ages 8-12). Kids will learn cool dance steps and routines while listening to kid friendly songs. The Zumba® Gold Fitness program is designed for the active older adult, the true beginner, and/or people who are not used to exercising, or people who may be limited physically. The main difference between Zumba Gold and Zumba is that Zumba Gold is done at a lower intensity, not as fast, but it certainly is as fun. The same great Latin styles of music and dance are used. Zumba Gold can also be done in a chair for people who are sedentary or wheelchair bound.Zumba® fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms and easy to follow moves to create a dynamic fitness program that will blow you away. You will be introduced to basic Merengue, Cumbia, Reggaeton, Belly Dancing and more! Add some Latin flavor and international zest into the mix and you've got Zumba®!

LAKEWOOD RECREATION COACH RECEIVES COACH OF THE YEAR HONORS
July 10, 2009
Members of the Ohio Parks and Recreation Association Youth Sports Committee met and reviewed the nominations for the Annual Youth Sports Coach of the Year Award. There were 9 very qualified and deserving nominations. Nominees included: Bill Pearce and Don Vargo (City of Westerville), Dave Knuth (Anderson Township Park District), Dr. Mark Hamm (City of Lakewood), Ross Gamby (Green Baseball and Softball Federation), Ken Puthoff, Ted Russell and Kim Schwegmann (City of Springdale) and Greg and Mindy Dysinger (National Trail Parks and Recreation District).Out of these worthy candidates, Dr. Mark Hamm from the Lakewood Recreation and Education Department was chosen as the 2009 recipient of the award. Dr. Hamm coaches boys 5th/6th grade basketball and football programs. He is dedicated to teaching and developing not only the skills of the sports but also those much needed life skills. Dr. Hamm was honored at the Columbus Clippers July 9th baseball game where he was asked to throw out the ceremonial first pitch (an opportunity he yielded to step-son James Brink) in their brand new stadium. The Clippers are the AAA affiliate of the Cleveland Indians. The game was also part of Parks and Recreation Day at the park. In addition, Dr. Hamm and the Lakewood Community Recreation and Education Department received plaques honoring his service and the statewide recognition he brings to the quality youth sports programs in communities throughout the state of Ohio. We applaud Dr. Mark Hamm for his efforts and are pleased to recognize such a deserving coach.
